Breaking: In Historic Change, Defense Secretary To Allow Women In All Combat Roles

Women are about to be allowed to work in all military combat roles, in a historic change.

The U.S. Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter, (photo) will announce a historic change: all military combat jobs will be opened to women.

The AP notes Carter has given all branches until January 1 to submit their plans to include women in these roles.

Carter’s order “rebuffs arguments from the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman that the Marine Corps should be allowed to exclude women from certain front-line combat jobs, citing studies showing that mixed-gender units aren’t as capable as all-male units,” the AP reports.

Implementation is expected to begin April 1.
