Breaking: Gunwoman In San Bernardino Attack Pledged Allegiance To ISIS On Facebook

One of the two suspects in the husband and wife team who are believed to have killed 14 pledged support to ISIS on Facebook.

Tashfeen Malik, the female suspect married to Syed Rizwan Farook, pledged her support to ISIS in a Facebook post she subsequently took down, according to federal law enforcement officials. The couple are the suspects in the San Bernardino mass shooting.

“At this point we believe they were more self-radicalized and inspired by the group than actually told to do the shooting,” one law enforcement official told The New York Times.

The message posted to Facebook, according to NBC’s Pete Williams, was posted via cellphone as a message, possibly via Facebook messaging, Wednesday morning. Williams surmised it could have been sent on the couple’s way to the facility where they are believed to have unleashed a torrent of about 70 rounds.

Islamic terrorists have used the oath of allegiance, called a bayat, to declare their loyalty to specific groups and leaders. To become a member of Al Qaeda, for instance, terrorists historically swore their devotion to Osama bin Laden,” the Times explains.

The couple died in a gunfight with police while attempting to escape in a rented black SUV (photo).
