UPDATING: Active Mass Shooting In California, 14 People Dead, 17 Others Injured

There is an active shooting underway in San Bernardino, California.

Reports are flooding in that possibly 20 people have been shot by an active shooting, there might be multiple fatalities, based on a video just shown on MSNBC, which called it a “mass casualty area.”

2:45 PM EST:
NBC News says there might be 2 suspects with masks and vests on. One is about 30-years old.

2:53 PM EST:
The building where the shooting is taking place reportedly houses an organization that provides services for developmentally disabled people.

People are being led out of the building, they all have their hands up in case one or more of them is the shooter or shooters.

 

3:03 PM EST:
This tweet from Australia’s “Today” show says possibly 12 people dead, three possible shooters. This is NOT confirmed.

3:06 PM EST:
The AP reports a gas station manager in the area “estimates that there are about 150 police officers flooding the area.”

CBS News’ photographer says there are 3 fatalities, again, this is not confirmed.

3:19 PM EST:
Local FOX News station also reports 12 dead.

Three people are confirmed dead.

The FBI and ATF are on scene.

UPDATE – 
Patients have been received at a local hospital. 
The shooter or shooters are still on the loose, and may have escaped in an SUV.
This is still very much an active event.
Three people are confirmed dead.

4:08 PM EST:
Shooting reportedly began in a conference area of the 3-story building that was being leased by another group today.

4:28 PM EST:

NBC is reporting a SWAT operation at a mall about an hour away from the San Bernardino scene, but NOT related. The shooter or shooters are still on the loose.

There are reportedly over 70 schools in the area on lockdown. How many children might that be?

Law enforcement will hold a press conference in a few minutes. We’ll have more updates shortly.

Via press conference from law enforcement –
Law enforcement confirms “suspects have fled,” possibly in a black SUV.
Virtually all law enforcement at all levels have been on scene.
“We do not know if this is a terrorist incident.”
Several hundred on scene were not injured.
“These are people who came prepared.”
Used longuns not handguns.

Pete Williams of NBC News says the “working assumption” from law enforcement officials is this was workplace violence, that the shooters had some relationship with the people they fired upon. The locus of the attack was a rented conference space within the social service agency, and was rented by a state health organization.
“Not a Paris-style attack,” Williams said, meaning not overseas-based terrorism.

8:40 PM EST:
Via latest law enforcement press conference –

A suspected explosive device was found.
The suspected were followed to Redlands.
At the car chase scene one male and one female were killed. They were dressed in “assault-style clothing, both armed with assault rifles and handguns.” 
One suspect is detained. 
One suspect is still on the run.
Police still do not have a motive.

FBI is on scene. They are at a house believed to have been occupied by the suspects.

“This is a marathon, not a sprint.”
FBI says “it is a possibility” this is terrorism but in no way ready to state it is.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes notes this is the largest mass shooting since Sandy Hook.
