Wanted: News Writers

Award-winning progressive news and opinion site announces call for socially conscious news writers.

The New Civil Rights Movement, an award-winning news and opinion media organization focused on progressive politics and civil rights, is looking for freelance writers to join our esteemed and accomplished team. Now in our eighth year, we’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing news sites of our kind, attracting exceptionally intelligent, influential, and politically-active readers.

Are you a news junkie? Do you often find yourself sharing the stories today that everyone else is reading tomorrow? Are you passionate about civil rights, marriage for same-sex couples, voting rights, women’s rights, immigration, climate change, race relations, income inequality, gun control and progressive politics? Are you an excellent writer who has experience working in online news media organizations? Can you write at least four strong, well-sourced, interesting, informative, accurate, and highly-readable articles a week?

If so, we want to talk with you!

We’re looking for news writers who can do quick turn-around on important, fast-paced, and breaking stories. A NCRM news writer generally takes assignments from the NCRM editor, although they are welcome to pitch stories as well.

The New Civil Rights Movement is a three-time GLAAD Media Award nominee and the 2014 winner for Outstanding Blog. We are regularly quoted by and linked to in the mainstream media, and we’re a highly-respected voice in progressive politics and the LGBT news media. NCRM has been identified and archived by the Library of Congress as a cultural artifact on public policy issues.

The New Civil Rights Movement is proud of our long history of delivering accurate and important news stories at breaking-news speed, and our strong history of analysis and providing context for critical issues in a timely manner.

This is not a call for op-ed or opinion writers. This is a call for writers who can source and turn around breaking news and news of-the-day before it hits the mainstream news outlets.
