No, Woman Who Posted Viral Photo Of Her Dog’s Mouth Being Duct-Taped Hasn’t Been Arrested

A Florida woman posted a photo of her dog with duct tape wrapped around his mouth, sparking international outrage. 

Over the weekend Florida woman Katie Brown posted a heartbreaking photo of her dog with duct tape wrapped around its mouth. “This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!,” Brown wrote on her Facebook post. Within hours the post went viral, being shared hundreds of thousands of times over the weekend.

Comments from friends and family urged her to take down the post, and to never do it again. Brown for days was defiant, insisting it was no big deal and that she had only left the tape on the dogs for a minute, as if that made it OK. 

“Don’t panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn’t barked since… POINT MADE!!!,” she wrote on Facebook.

Calls from around the nation and around the world came in to the Police Department of the City of South Daytona, supposedly where Brown lives. Their switchboard crashed and seven people have been working overtime to answer calls and emails.

It turns out Brown is reportedly not in South Daytona, but now hiding in Connecticut. And her Facebook post seems to have been deleted.

On its official Facebook page the City of South Daytona has posted nine updates about the story. Here’s the latest, from Sunday:

Contrary to a false report that is now floating around quickly on Facebook, Brown has not been arrested.

Both NBC’s “Today” show and NBC affiliate WFLA (above) Monday morning ran stories giving the latest updates.

In fact, Brown is believed to be in Connecticut, and reportedly has spoken to authorities assuring them the dog is OK, but they are unable to locate her. Police, according to NBC Connecticut, are looking for her.

Regardless, sadly, there’s little chance of prosecution, but if authorities do decide to arrest her, and can locate her, that would likely take place in Connecticut, according to WFLA.
