GOP Anti-Equality Candidate Outed With Gay Dating Site Profile Loses City Council Race

A man who opposes LGBT civil rights protections but found himself outed when his Adam4Adam profile was exposed lost his election bid in conservative Indiana.

Brent Randall Tuesday night lost his bid to become a city council member in Goshen, Indiana. The 53-year old anti-gay Republican who was married for two decades but divorced several years ago was recently outed after his profile on a gay “hookup” and dating website was revealed.

Despite support from his fellow GOP candidates and even a statement from his Democratic opponent, all saying they hoped the revelation would not affect voters’ decisions, Democrat Adam Scharf won the seat.

When news broke that Randall, who is a local businessman and announces high school football games as a local sports broadcaster, had a gay dating site profile, he did not deny it.

“I don’t even know if I consider myself bisexual or not. I just experimented a little since I was single again.”

But despite his experimentation, Randall strongly insisted he does not support any protections for LGBT people, even going so far as to claim he thinks the law already protects them.

“I don’t know why they feel they need special protections when there are other categories that might need protections,” he said of LGBT people. “My little experimentation over the last six years hasn’t changed my view on that.”

This morning, Randall left this tweet:

Does Randall now think LGBT people need civil rights protections? He’s yet to say.
