Charlie Sheen: ‘I Am In Fact HIV Positive’ (Video)

Actor Charlie Sheen reveals he has had HIV for about four years.

Charlie Sheen Tuesday morning sat down with the Today show’s Matt Lauer and revealed he has HIV.

“I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive,” the 50-year old former “Two and a Half Men” star said. He also says he wants to put an end to the many rumors that he has threatened the health of others, “which couldn’t be farther from the truth.”

Sheen says he was diagnosed “roughly four years ago,” and shared his status with a few people he trusted, but says he has paid several people millions of dollars to keep it a secret.

Sheen told Lauer it’s “a turning point in one’s life,” and “a hard three letters to absorb.”

And he says by opening up and publicly revealing his HIV status, “I think I release myself from this prison today.”

Later in the interview, Sheen’s doctor says he does not have AIDS.

It does not appear Sheen or Lauer discussed PrEP, although this would have been the perfect time to educate the public more about HIV and PrEP.
