Opinion: 25 GOPÂ governors now illegally refusing refugees, and all based on a fake Syrian passport.Â
The level of Republican inhumanity and stupidity, and refusal to look for facts has reached new heights.
Remember George W. Bush and the lies he and his administration told in the run up to the Iraq War?Â
Bush didn’t look for facts, and when confronted with them, he dismissed them. You’re seeing today by Republicans that same level of intellectual malpractice, a lack of curiosity about facts, a pandering to the base and an almost viral race to the bottom of the barrel of stupidity.
At least 25 of America’s 31 Republican governors today (and sadly, Democratic governor Maggie Hassan) have issued press releases, tweets, and executive orders mandating – and boasting – their state will not accept any Syrian refugees. Unfortunately, it appears none of them bothered to actually check if they have the authority to refuse refugees here legally, though an extremely rigorous federal process.
And, of course, these “pro-life” “conservative Christian” governors, it turns out, do not have the authority to refuse refugees.
But what they do have is the ability to grandstand and to turn the tide of public opinion against the very people running from terrorists, and have Americans see them as terrorists, so when they do get to America (insert obligatory “land of the free, home of the brave” quote here) many will likely become victimized by a pathetically ignorant, Fox News watching populace that equates “Muslim” with “terrorist.”
To be clear, even France has called the murder of 129 people in the Paris attacks, not to mention the hundreds who have suffered injuries, “an issue of internal domestic security.”
Or, to be even more clear, as ThinkProgress reports, “All of the attackers from Friday’s massacre in Paris so far have been identified as European Union nationals, according to a top EU official.”
That story about one of the terrorists having a Syrian passport is either fake, or his passport was.
Here’s the list of Republicans who have stated America should refuse Syrian refugees, or have stated they will not allow them in their state, all based on a false story about a Paris attacks terrorist with a fake Syrian passport.
Robert Bentley of Alabama
Doug Ducey of Arizona
Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas
Rick Scott of Florida
Nathan Deal of Georgia
Butch Otter of Idaho
Mike Pence of Indiana
Terry Branstad of Iowa
Bruce Rauner of Illinois
Sam Brownback of Kansas
Bobby Jindal of Louisiana
Paul LePage of Maine
Charlie Baker of Massachusetts
Rick Snyder of Michigan
Phil Bryant of Mississippi
Pete Ricketts of Nebraska
Chris Christie of New Jersey
Pat McCrory of North Carolina
John Kasich of Ohio
Mary Fallin of Oklahoma
Nikki Haley of South Carolina
Bill Haslam of Tennessee
Greg Abbott of Texas
Scott Walker of Wisconsin
Matt Bevin, governor-elect of Kentucky
GOP Presidential Candidates:
Ben Carson – no religious test, but an “ideological” one
Jeb Bush – only Christian refugees
Chris Christie – no Syrian refugees, “not even 5-year-old orphans“

Pentagon Triples Number of US Troops With Traumatic Brain Injury After Iran Attack – Trump Said They Were Just ‘Headaches’
The Pentagon has just announced 34 U.S. troops have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries as a result of Iran’s missile attacks on U.S. Forces at Iraqi bases where they were hosted earlier this month. That’s more than three times the number of service members initially reported, eleven, and an upgrade from “possible” traumatic brain injuries.
President Donald Trump, hours after the missiles hit two U.S. bases declared “All is well!” and insisted there had been no injuries to American forces. He later dismissed the injuries as “not very serious” and “headaches, and a couple of other things.”
Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can lead to severe permanent brain damage and can be fatal.
On Wednesday the Commander-in-Chief was asked about the eleven U.S. service members who had been diagnosed with possible traumatic brain injuries as a result of Iran’s attack on U.S. Forces at Iraqi bases where they were hosted. Trump told a reporter they were just “headaches,” and became defensive quickly (video below.)
“I heard that they had headaches, and a couple of other things but I would say, and I can report, it is not very serious.”
“You don’t think that a potential traumatic brain injury is very serious?” the reporter asked.
“Um, they told me about it numerous days later – you’d have to ask the Dept. of Defense,” Trump replied. “No, I don’t consider them very serious injuries relative to other injuries that I’ve seen.”
That reporter was CBS News White House Correspondent Weijia Jiang. She later noted that “Trump has said many times that no Americans were hurt when Iran retaliated for the Soleimani strike, and that was a big reason he declared victory.”
That reason has been shredded, and Trump has made no effort to correct his remarks, and shown no concern for the now 34 service members.
Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance weighed in, saying, “34 with TBI, in a crisis that looked like it was manufactured by Trump to distract from impeachment.”
“Pentagon officials have said there had been no effort to minimize or delay information on concussive injuries,” Reuters reports, “but its handling of the injuries following Tehran’s attack has renewed questions over the U.S. military’s policy regarding how it deals with suspected brain injuries.”
Here’s Trump dismissing TBIs as mere “headaches” earlier this week:

‘Jury Tampering’: Internet Explodes After WH Threatens Senators Their Heads ‘Will Be on a Pike’ if They Vote to Convict
The news was so shocking some thought it was fake. But as CBS News reports, the White House is threatening Republican Senators to not vote to convict President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial, or else.
That “or else” was revealed by CBS News’ Chief Congressional Correspondent Nancy Cordes, who reports, “One Trump confidant tells CBS News that GOP senators have been warned: ‘Vote against the president and your head will be on a pike.'”
The revelation comes at the 1:17 mark:
In opening statements, House managers examined the debunked conspiracy theories invoked by Pres. Trump.
A @POTUS confidant tells CBS News that GOP senators were warned: “vote against the president & your head will be on a pike.”

Marketwatch described it as the Trump administration “getting medieval.”
Social media users were less reserved, pushing the hashtag #HeadOnAPike to the number two spot on Twitter’s trending list.
Some felt Chief Justice John Roberts should have taken action on the news. Others felt it was akin to jury tampering.
Take a look at some examples:
If any one of us ever threatened that we would put a juror’s #HeadOnAPike if he/she did not let us off, we would be thrown behind bars for up to 20 yrs for juror intimidation.
Stop saying Trump didn’t commit a crime. He continues to commit crimes every day! #RightMatters

President Trump’s people told the Senate GOP, “Vote against the President and your head will be on a pike.”
I dunno about you guys, but that doesn’t sound like #BeBest to me.
In fact, it kinda sounds like jury tampering…But hey, MAGA, you do you.

So a comedian puts red paint on a Trump mask and her life is upended for threatening the president. But the president can literally threaten US Senators with summary execution if they don’t vote to acquit him and that’s okay?#HeadOnAPike#TrumpIsGuilty#RemoveTrump

‘Take Her Out’: Trump Said He Wanted Ukraine Ambassador Yovanovitch Fired – and It’s on Tape: Report
During a private dinner that was secretly recorded President Donald Trump appears to have ordered the firing of his Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, a highly-regarded veteran diplomat who began working for the U.S. Foreign Service in 1986, during the Reagan administration.
“Get rid of her!” a voice that appears to be President Trump’s is heard saying, ABC News reports. “Get her out tomorrow. I don’t care. Get her out tomorrow. Take her out. Okay? Do it.”
ABC says it has reviewed the recording, which was “made during an intimate April 30, 2018 dinner at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.”
Also attending that “small gathering” were Rudy Giuliani’s henchmen, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, who have since been indicted.
“The recording appears to contradict statements by President Trump and support the narrative that has been offered by Parnas during broadcast interviews in recent days,” ABC adds. Trump has repeatedly claimed he does not know and has never met Parnas.
Parnas has said that Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr were fully aware of his actions in the Ukraine extortion scandal.
Federal prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the powerful Southern District of New York (SDNY) have been given a copy of the recording.
