Opinion: 25 GOPÂ governors now illegally refusing refugees, and all based on a fake Syrian passport.Â
The level of Republican inhumanity and stupidity, and refusal to look for facts has reached new heights.
Remember George W. Bush and the lies he and his administration told in the run up to the Iraq War?Â
Bush didn’t look for facts, and when confronted with them, he dismissed them. You’re seeing today by Republicans that same level of intellectual malpractice, a lack of curiosity about facts, a pandering to the base and an almost viral race to the bottom of the barrel of stupidity.
At least 25 of America’s 31 Republican governors today (and sadly, Democratic governor Maggie Hassan) have issued press releases, tweets, and executive orders mandating – and boasting – their state will not accept any Syrian refugees. Unfortunately, it appears none of them bothered to actually check if they have the authority to refuse refugees here legally, though an extremely rigorous federal process.
And, of course, these “pro-life” “conservative Christian” governors, it turns out, do not have the authority to refuse refugees.
But what they do have is the ability to grandstand and to turn the tide of public opinion against the very people running from terrorists, and have Americans see them as terrorists, so when they do get to America (insert obligatory “land of the free, home of the brave” quote here) many will likely become victimized by a pathetically ignorant, Fox News watching populace that equates “Muslim” with “terrorist.”
To be clear, even France has called the murder of 129 people in the Paris attacks, not to mention the hundreds who have suffered injuries, “an issue of internal domestic security.”
Or, to be even more clear, as ThinkProgress reports, “All of the attackers from Friday’s massacre in Paris so far have been identified as European Union nationals, according to a top EU official.”
That story about one of the terrorists having a Syrian passport is either fake, or his passport was.
Here’s the list of Republicans who have stated America should refuse Syrian refugees, or have stated they will not allow them in their state, all based on a false story about a Paris attacks terrorist with a fake Syrian passport.
Robert Bentley of Alabama
Doug Ducey of Arizona
Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas
Rick Scott of Florida
Nathan Deal of Georgia
Butch Otter of Idaho
Mike Pence of Indiana
Terry Branstad of Iowa
Bruce Rauner of Illinois
Sam Brownback of Kansas
Bobby Jindal of Louisiana
Paul LePage of Maine
Charlie Baker of Massachusetts
Rick Snyder of Michigan
Phil Bryant of Mississippi
Pete Ricketts of Nebraska
Chris Christie of New Jersey
Pat McCrory of North Carolina
John Kasich of Ohio
Mary Fallin of Oklahoma
Nikki Haley of South Carolina
Bill Haslam of Tennessee
Greg Abbott of Texas
Scott Walker of Wisconsin
Matt Bevin, governor-elect of Kentucky
GOP Presidential Candidates:
Ben Carson – no religious test, but an “ideological” one
Jeb Bush – only Christian refugees
Chris Christie – no Syrian refugees, “not even 5-year-old orphans“

‘More Grifting’: Internet Says ‘Scam Artist’ Trump Will Try to Move GOP Convention to One of His Own Resorts
“Trump Doral is going to be the new corona hotspot”
Many across the country think President Donald Trump may try to move the Republican National Convention to one of his own resorts after he kicked off Memorial Day by threatening the governor of North Carolina he may pull it.
The RNC chose the city of Charlotte as host for its 2020 convention, despite the state having a Democratic governor. On Monday Trump tried to force Gov. Roy Cooper to commit to allowing the August event to be held at full capacity, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Social media users immediately assumed it was a ploy for Trump to move the convention to the Trump Doral or Mar-a-Lago. Trump would make millions if he could secure the contract.
And some even noted The New York Times on Monday reported Trump has even “mused aloud to several aides about why the convention can’t simply be held in a hotel ballroom in Florida.”
I can see Trump holding it at Doral, his financially failing resort, so he will be able to pocket money from it. Just a speculation, but so on brand for the #GrifterInChief
— NMWizard (@JZ_nm) May 25, 2020
Having failed to hold the G-7 at Doral, Trump could be angling to hold the Republican convention at one of his Florida businesses.
Aside from practical concerns, would Republicans ever do anything to stop him? https://t.co/B7t1jYRYr3

Trump just angling to get it moved to Doral. More grifting coming up
— Pam Riley (@jayhawksmile96) May 25, 2020
Don’t fall for it. RNC already discussing downscaling the “Republican National Convention”. Trump’s just setting the stage to blame NC. As @maggieNYT reports Trump has expressed interest at having the convention at a Doral ballroom. Not quite “full capacity” is it? #ScamArtist

It’s going to end up at Doral, isn’t it?
— Susan Kramer (@kramer_susan) May 25, 2020
The Republican National Convention, such as it will be, is going to be held at Mar-a-Lago, right? https://t.co/xrcZSkTfYr
— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) May 25, 2020
No doubt that the Republican National Convention will be held at Doral, Mar-a-Lago, or maybe even the Trump golf property in Scotland. That way Donald Trump can make cash off of it. If there’s a way to monetize politics, he’ll find it.
We could have predicted this months ago. pic.twitter.com/VrxM8bLawU

Trump Doral is going to be the new corona hotspot if the NC governor keeps thinking of the safety of his state.
— Art Martin (@gartmartin9) May 25, 2020
Republican Convention at the Doral Resort in Florida.
— Joe Lockhart (@joelockhart) May 25, 2020
What if this was just the long-game plan to get the convention at the Doral?
Not having another option is a pretty solid excuse for having it at a Trump property. https://t.co/Tplg5ryKS0
— Andrew Solender (@AndrewSolender) May 25, 2020
Folks: Done deal! Think Electoral College. Trump can lose NC—but Florida is a must win. Plus, Doral needs the funds to stay afloat. However, will Republicans tolerate the Doral bedbugs? https://t.co/Yf9duPgjkY

Right-Wing Militia Spokeswoman Defends Lynching of KY Governor in Effigy: Protesting ‘Is Not the Answer Any Longer’
A group of right-wing protesters held a demonstration in front of the house of Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s mansion this Sunday, at one point hanging an effigy of the governor on a tree in what looked to be a mock lynching. According to CNN, the protest was advertised on Facebook as a Patriot Day Rally to exercise Second Amendment rights.
The backlash against the group’s actions was swift, with even Mitch McConnell slamming the move as “unacceptable.”
“There is no place for hate in Kentucky,” he tweeted.
Responding to the backlash, one of the protest’s organizers took to Facebook and said that this is what happens when people have “stood by and watched this Governor drag people thru the mud and do nothing.”
“People have had enough, the rallies that you attend and speak at, do absolutely nothing to help the people of this State,” Kentucky 3Percenters Inc. State Secretary Patsy Kays Bush on Facebook. “It was not racist it was radical…You can condemn it till the cows come home but screaming and shouting in a microphone is not the answer any longer,….maybe it was in bad taste, maybe it was severe, maybe it was unexpected but at least it was something and I personally will stand by it to the absolute end.”

The protesters, who are part of a militia group that advocates for gun rights, were protesting against Beshear’s coronavirus restrictions at a Second Amendment rally in Kentucky over Memorial Day weekend.
Trump Threatens to Pull GOP Convention Out of NC as First Tweet on Solemn Holiday – Then Says ‘Happy Memorial Day!’
Memorial Day is a solemn American holiday. It was created for one reason and one reason only: to honor, and to mourn, the members of the U.S. Military who lost their lives while serving their country. It is not a happy day.
Given the coronavirus death toll will likely hit the 100,000 mark today, it is an especially solemn day.
Memorial Day is a day traditionally reserved by the nation’s elected leaders for reflection, visiting gravesites, laying wreaths, and perhaps a non-partisan, non-political speech. It is not a day for politics.
President Donald Trump woke up on this Memorial Day and decided to do things a president and a Commander-in-Chief should never do.
Trump continued his bizarre and heinous holiday tweetstorm by threatening to pull the GOP convention out of North Carolina. He claims he blames the state’s Democratic governor for not giving the RNC the promise they will be allowed to have a full house for their nominating convention, due to coronavirus concerns.
He then tweeted three words no Commander-in-Chief should ever say: “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!”
That was followed by more political tweets.
