Ted Cruz blasted the efforts to allow transgender service members to serve openly, and suggested DADT is on the table for discussion.
Speaking to supporters in Iowa Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz was asked about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and if he might bring it back. DADT, which forbade gay, bisexual, and lesbian service members to serve openly, was repealed under President Obama in 2011. By all legitimate reports and studies the execution of the repeal went even more smoothly than predicted.
Cruz, the Washington Post reports, “said he would ‘listen to the expert judgment of the generals and admirals’ on the current situation and that military policy should follow what is needed for ‘good order and discipline’ and not social issues.”
“We shouldn’t view the military as a cauldron for social experiments,” Cruz announced.
The Texas Republican presidential candidate also lamented that transgender soldiers will soon be allowed to serve openly.
“How about having the military focusing on hunting down and killing the bad guys…instead of treating it as this crucible for social justice innovations. We’ve lost sight of what their job is and that’s what we need to get back to,” Cruz said.
Of course, LGBT people have proven they are more than capable of “hunting down and killing the bad guys,” and doing far more – including what serving in the military actually requires.
