Watch: Bill Maher Hysterically Translates What Bernie Sanders Says Into What Republicans Hear

Bill Maher offered translations of Bernie Sanders’ policies into another language: Republican.

Unlike Rand Paul, who this week actually said he’s “scared” of a Bernie Sanders presidency because he believes it could lead to “mass genocide,” most Americans are fairly aware that Bernie Sanders’ brand of Democratic Socialism is not the same as the brand of Communism that Stalin practiced. Except, maybe, for some Republicans – especially Donald Trump‘s supporters.

On “Real Time” Friday night, Bill Maher helped his audience understand what Republicans hear when Bernie Sanders speaks, offering a translation, of sorts.

“What happens,” Maher said, “is Bernie says something, and they hear something completely different.”

Maher first showed a recent clip of Donald Trump’s interpretation of what Sanders and Hillary Clinton were saying at Tuesday night’s Democratic debate. He then played clips from the debate, then played the same clips with the Republican translation.

Without giving too much away, the topics were the use of force, American exceptionalism, guns, the military, and the war on drugs.
