TN GOP Lt. Gov. On UCC Shooting: Christians Now Targets Of ‘Aggressive Secularism’ So Arm Yourselves

Tennessee’s Lt. Governor just issued a stunning warning to his “fellow Christians who are serious about their faith.”

Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey took to Facebook late this morning to share his feelings about Thursday’s horrific massacre at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College. The gunman (whom NCRM has decided to not name unless necessary) who shot and killed at least nine and wounded reportedly seven others, self-identified as “Not Religious, but Spiritual” and belonged to a group on a dating site, “Doesn’t Like Organized Religion.” He by no means was an atheist, and chose as his moniker on that site “IRONCROSS45,” a reference to a Nazi symbol.

In fact, he also was a self described “conservative, republican.”

But facts did not dissuade Ramsey from warning his “fellow Christians” to arm themselves.

“The recent spike in mass shootings across the nation is truly troubling,” Ramsey’s Facebook post reads. “Whether the perpetrators are motivated by aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy, their targets remain the same: Christians and defenders of the West.”

Ramsey, apparently desiring to appear rational, noted that this is “not the time for widespread panic,” but “it is a time to prepare.”

“I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit. I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.”

“Our enemies are armed,” he concluded. “We must do likewise.”

He then linked to a state government website page that reads, “How to Apply for a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit.”

There is no evidence that the UCC gunman was targeting Christians, as much as the Christian right exploded in paranoid hysteria,  certain that their persecution complexes were validated by reports, albeit likely true, that the gunman asked students to state their religion before massacring them.

The gunman wasn’t anti-Christian, he was anti-organized religion.

“This is where Christian Persecution Complex gets dangerous,” Hemant Mehta at Friendly Atheist observes, and mockingly adds, “Let’s give a bunch of people who already overreact to situations a weapon! What could possibly go wrong?”
