Watch: High School Students Run Westboro Baptist Church The Hell Out Of Town

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church were run out of town after a failed attempt to protest a transgender student winning the title of Homecoming Queen.

Landon Patterson, a senior at Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri, made history a few weeks ago when she became the school’s first openly transgender Homecoming Queen. We previously posted a video showing the school cheering and applauding as she won the crown.

Never one to miss the opportunity to steal the spotlight (seriously, they’re worse than Kanye West stealing the mic from Taylor Swift during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards), the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) decided to picket Oak Park High School.

What the church didn’t anticipate was a mob of students on scene in a counter protest. According to the Prairie Village Post, the Colonial Church in Prairie Village helped organize a “Wall of Love” counter protest after hearing of the WBC’s plan to spread hate.

“One of our members saw the Westboro flier and messaged me on Facebook hoping that there was some kind of plan for a human wall against that hate,” explained Pastor Aaron Roberts of the Colonial Church. “No child – no person – should have that kind of cruel hate leveled at them, and it’s particularly irksome to me that it is done in the name of ‘church.’”

The counter protest quickly grew to about 200 students, parents, and community members. While the WBC held signs with messages like “GOD H8S TRANNIES” and “GOD WON’T CHANGE YOUR CHROMOSOMES,” counter protest signs included messages such as “I Stand With Landon” and “Westboro Baptist Church needs Jesus.”

It looks like large group of counter protesters was too much for the WBC because they were quickly chased out of town in an epic manner. The WBC members cowered back into their minivan as the students chanted, “Long live the queen!” Check out the video below.
