Obama And Biden, And Separately Hillary Clinton, Announce Support For Houston Equal Rights Ordinance
The Obama White House, and separately, Hillary Clinton, have announced support for Houston’s nondiscrimination ordinance.
Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance, known as HERO, is being voted on this week and through Election Day next Tuesday. The Obama administration, and separately, Hillary Clinton, today voiced support for its passage.
“While the administration generally does not take a formal position on specific proposals or initiatives, the president and vice president have been strong supporters of state and local efforts to protect Americans from being discriminated against based on who they are and who they love,” Jeff Tiller, a White House spokesperson, told the Washington Blade. “We’re confident that the citizens of Houston will vote in favor of fairness and equality.â€
Separately today, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton voiced support for HERO via Twitter:
No one should face discrimination for who they are or who they love—I support efforts for equality in Houston & beyond. #HERO #YesOnProp1 -H

That drew a tweet from HRC president Chad Griffin:
Thank you for your support @HillaryClinton! It’s time to protect all Houstonians from discrimination. https://t.co/qHPWVEGQkc

It appears that neither the Bernie Sanders or Martin O’Malley campaigns have voiced an opinion on or support for HERO specifically.
