Michelle Duggar Gives Tips To Newlywed Wives: Be ‘Joyfully Available’ Sexually Even If Exhausted

Michelle Duggar last week took to the family’s official blog to offer some “marriage advice” to recently married women on how to keep their husbands happy.

“19 Kids and Counting” mom Michelle Duggar says women who are exhausted and pregnant should still put on a happy face and have sex with their husbands regardless of how they feel.

Duggar quoted a friend who gave her advice just months before she married Jim Bob Duggar.

“Michelle, I know you’re so excited. You’re a bride-to-be, but some day you’ll be at this point,” Michelle says her friend Gala told her. “I’ve been married three years and I’m still happily married. I have one child, we’re expecting our second and I’m big pregnant.”

“You’ve got to remember this,” she says Gala continued. “Anyone can iron Jim Bob’s shirt, anybody can make lunch for him. He can get his lunch somewhere else. But you are the only one who can meet that special need that he has in his life for intimacy. You’re it. You’re the only one. So don’t forget that, that he needs you. So when you are exhausted at the end of the day, maybe from dealing with little ones, and you fall into bed so exhausted at night, don’t forget about him because you and he are the only ones who can have that time together. No one else in the world can meet that need.”

“And so be available, and not just available, but be joyfully available for him,” Michelle says Gala told her. “Smile and be willing to say, ‘Yes, sweetie I am here for you,’ no matter what, even though you may be exhausted and big pregnant and you may not feel like he feels. ‘I’m still here for you and I’m going to meet that need because I know it’s a need for you.’ ”

Duggar seems to suggest that only men have sexual needs, not women.

She says that she is “always joyfully available” for Jim Bob, and because of that, she knows “in turn, he’ll lay down his life in any way.”

The example she offers is that her husband “will sit there and listen to everything I need to tell him because he knows that I’m there for him, too. I’m meeting his needs, he’s meeting my needs.”

Although she has denied it, the Duggar family appears to follow the edicts of a fringe branch of Christianity known as the Quiverfull movement. Adherents believe in large families, no birth control, and that men have absolute power over women.

The Duggar family lost their reality TV show earlier this year when it was revealed that their oldest son Josh Duggar had sexually molested several young girls, including his sisters, when he was a teen. Later, news broke that Josh had two Ashley Madison accounts, may have had an account at another dating site, had affairs, and reportedly is in rehab that has “no medical staff.” Duggar admitted to having a “double life” and blamed his “secret addiction” to pornography.
