Largest Segment Of GOP Now Believes Trump Will Win Nomination, Has Best Chance At Presidency

A new poll just released finds a plurality of Republicans think Trump will be the nominee and is the best GOP candidate to face off against the Democratic nominee.

42 percent of Republicans now believe Donald Trump will be the GOP presidential nominee, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll reveals. Further, 43 percent believe he has the best chance among Republican candidates to win the 2016 presidential election and take the White House.

This new data come as new polling keeps Trump at the top of the charts for GOP registered voters, with 32 percent.

Ben Carson comes in second in all the above categories, as expected.

But Trump also is winning in personality attributes, with Republicans placing him at the top of lists for strongest leader (47%), best on immigration (39%), closest to them on the issues (32%), and even “best understands the problems of people like you,” at 29 percent.

Trump comes in second for best experience, most honest, and best personality.

Interestingly, Trump also comes in second for a huge negative: the more Republican voters hear about Trump, the less they like him. Only Jeb Bush beat Trump in that category.

Demographically, who likes Trump the best?

Anti-immigration Republicans, those looking for a political outsider,  white Republicans, less educated potential voters, especially white men without a college degree, and perhaps most surprisingly, “a third of evangelical white Protestants.”
