Clinton, Moving Left, Announces She Now Opposes Obama’s International Trade Agreement (Video)

Hillary Clinton just announced she opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership that she worked on when she was Secretary of State.

Things change.

Hillary Clinton, facing an increasingly stiff challenge from Bernie Sanders, just announced she opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), an international 12-nation trade agreement the Obama administration has been fighting for.

“I don’t believe it’s going to meet the high bar I have set,” the Democratic frontrunner told PBS’ Judy Woodruff. “What I know about it, as of today, I am not in favor.”

She adds she is concerned “about currency manipulation not being part of the agreement” and that “pharmaceutical companies may have gotten more benefits and patients fewer.”

I’m worried about currency manipulation not being part of the agreement,” Clinton also said. “We’ve lost American jobs to the manipulations that countries, particularly in Asia, have engaged in. I’m worried the pharmaceutical companies may have gotten more benefits — and patients and consumers fewer. I think there are still a lot of unanswered questions.”

“But for me, it really comes down to those three points that I made, and the fact that we’ve learned a lot about trade agreements in the past years.”

As CNN points out, Clinton spoke highly of it dozens of times, and pointed to, at least its framework, as an achievement in her book, Hard Choices.

Back in May, Bernie Sanders said TPP is “nothing less than a continuation of disastrous trade policies that is one of the reasons why the middle class in America is disappearing. It ain’t hard.”
