Ben Carson Says Rape, Incest, And Maybe The Mother’s Life Are Not Reasons To ‘Kill A Baby’

“The mother should not believe that the baby is her enemy,” says Ben Carson.

Ben Carson has once again used slavery as an analogy. The retired pediatric neurosurgeon who once compared Obamacare to slavery Sunday morning compared abortion to slavery, and a woman who chooses an abortion to a slave owner who wants to kill her “enemy.”

“In the ideal situation,” Carson posited on Meet the Press, “the mother should not believe that the baby is her enemy, and should not be looking to terminate the baby.”

He went on to say that “we’ve allowed purveyors” of abortion rights “to let mothers think that that baby is their enemy and that they have a right to kill it.” He called the right to abortion a “perverted line of thinking.”

“What if somebody has an unwanted pregnancy. Should they have the right to terminate?,” NBC’s Chuck Todd asked.

“No,” was Carson’s response.

“Think about this,” Carson, told Chuck Todd. “During slavery — and I know that’s one of those words you’re not supposed to say but I’m saying it — during slavery, a lot of slave owners thought they had the right to do whatever they wanted to that slave, anything that they chose. And what if the abolitionists had said, ‘I don’t believe in slavery, I think it’s wrong, but you guys do whatever you want to do’? Where would we be?,” he asked.

Carson, who in some polls has now pulled into the top position, said he “would love to see” Roe v. Wade overturned.

“I’m a reasonable person,” Carson claimed, as he often does right before making outrageous statements. “And if people can come up with a reasonable explanation of why they would like to kill a baby, I’ll listen,” Carson claimed when asked if there should be exceptions to a zero-abortions law.

He claimed that situations in which abortion is necessary to save the life or health of the mother are “extraordinarily rare,” and refused to say they should absolutely be allowed. “I believe there’s room to discuss that,” was all he would he offer.

But abortion for rape or incest Carson would outlaw totally.

“Rape or incest, I would not be in favor for killing a baby because the baby came about in that way,” Carson stated.

According to the conservative polling organization Gallup, 50 percent of Americans are pro-choice, 44 percent are not.

A 2012 CNN poll found 88 percent of Americans say abortion should be legal when the mother’s life is endangered, and 83 percent think it should be legal when her health is. 83 percent also think abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest.

As far as Dr. Carson’s claim that it is “extremely rare” that abortion is ever necessary to save the life or health of the mother, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2012 stated that “more than 600 women die each year from pregnancy and childbirth-related reasons,” and added, “many more women would die each year if they did not have access to abortion to protect their health or to save their lives.”
