‘America Is So Sick We Need A Doctor’: Christians Who Love Ben Carson Because America Needs ‘Saving’

Opinion: Christian Republicans explain why they are voting for Ben Carson for president – religion – which has nothing to do with his ability to be the nation’s chief executive or commander in chief.

“I love the man,” one Ben Carson supporter in Boulder, Colorado told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing on Thursday (in the video above, in a segment starting at the 5 minute mark.) “I would give him everything I had, honest to God. I am serious, I would. I love him. He needs to save our country and our country needs saved.”

“America is so sick we need a doctor,” another woman told Jansing. “We need a doctor to heal us and that’s all there is to it.”

Those are just two of the many supporters who have propelled Carson to the number one slot in some polls, and tied with Donald Trump in others.

“We must stop listening to the secular progressives who are trying to kick God out of our country,” Carson said this week in a speech at Colorado Christian University, as The New York Times shows in a profile of Ben Carson’s supporters this week (video below).

“He’s a good Christian,” one woman told the Times.

“I like his faith, I like that he has clear stances on, certain topics, such as homosexuality, abortion,” a man told the Times.

None of these people interviewed expressed any rational reason for choosing a candidate who can solve the actual, real problems confronting the nation today. And the idea that being “a good Christian” or sharing one’s religious views on homosexuality or abortion is a justifiable rationale for a nation to choose a Commander in Chief is stunning.

Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and everyone is entitled to their vote. But if America is going to choose a candidate for president based on his religious beliefs, America is in trouble. As others have said, we’re electing a president, not a pastor.

By the way, Carson’s religious beliefs include comparing homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality, and include claiming same-sex marriage turns the Bible into “garbage.”

And on abortion, Carson as recently as Sunday said he opposes abortion in most if not all cases, including rape and incest. The need for abortion for the life or health of the mother, Carson, falsely claims, is very rare, and he would not say he supports it even then.

“If people can come up with a reasonable explanation of why they would like to kill a baby, I’ll listen,” he said.

America does not need “saved,” America is not “so sick we need a doctor.”

And those who think we do are just perpetuating the problem.
