TSA Detains, Asks Woman To Leave Orlando Airport For Being Transgender – She Live Tweets It All
“TSA agent Bramlet told me to get back in the machine as a man or it was going to be a problem,†Shadi Petosky, a transgender woman, tweeted while at the airport in Orlando.
Shadi Petosky, a transgender woman flying out of Orlando International Airport, live tweeted the discrimination she faced from the TSA while trying to go through security.Â
After being detained in a room, Petosky says she was told to get back in the machine as a man.Â
Â
If that wasn’t bad enough, Petosky claims the TSA agents asked her what gender she was and eventually told her she needed to leave the airport.Â
When people on Twitter became outraged at the incident, TSA responded by saying, “TSA takes all potential civil rights violations very seriously. We are looking into the situation now for further information.”
Ultimately, Petosky got help – albeit more public relations than support – from America Airlines.

These are my last DMs with @AmericanAir, I wanted help. They were unresponsive beyond you’re booked! We’re good! pic.twitter.com/SLwQAucQCW

The TSA issued a statement following this horrific event, claiming they already have “determined that the evidence shows our officers followed TSA’s strict guidelines.”
There are many more tweets than above. You can see them all on Petosky’s Twitter timeline.
On Twitter, other people in the trans community started to use #travelingwhiletrans to comment on the incident and share their own experiences and stories. Have you had issues #travelingwhiletrans? If so, let us know in the comments section below. And if you’re outraged by what happened to Petosky, make sure you tweet @TSA and let them know.
