Watch: Singer Gracefully Uses Reporter’s Wrong Assumption He’s Straight To Prove Love Is Love

Steve Grand appeared on a San Diego TV station this weekend and used a reporter’s false assumption to eloquently prove gay or straight, love is love.

Steve Grand, one of the first openly-gay country music singer-songwriters, appeared on San Diego’s CW affiliate XETV to promote his Saturday night show. One of the two reporters interviewing the 25-year old “All-American Boy” crooner asked where he finds his inspiration.

“Breakups?,” she inquired.

Another interjected, “Poor women who date you, right?”

Grand graciously offered, “Well, no, I’m gay, so, it’s guys…”

But then, eloquently, he continued, “but it’s all the same, really, it’s about the human experience. That’s what I really mostly stand for as an artist.”

“I think that it’s good that people hear me and they may not even realize that I’m singing about guys,” Grand offered, taking the slip up and turning it into a great opportunity to advocate for equality and understanding. “I think that is a testament to the fact that we do really all love the same, we lose the same, we feel heartache the same and that’s what it’s all about.”

Later, when he posted the video to his Facebook page, he called the reporters “very sweet and cheery.”

Grand notes he “used the opportunity to talk about how no matter who we love, as humans, we all love the same… That our experiences are far more alike than different… Love is a human experience, not specified to one sexual orientation or another… etc.”

“As soon as we cut the segment I burst out laughing and let the woman know it was all okay,” he adds.

“If I was legit famous it would be one thing, but I still feel grateful for all the opportunities I am afforded to talk about my life and my work,” Grand humbly says, calling it “just a silly moment I found to be pretty hilarious.”
