Video: Kim Davis Receives Religious Liberty ‘Cost Of Discipleship’ Award From FRC’s Tony Perkins

Kim Davis Friday night received an award from an anti-gay hate group for refusing to respect the federal courts, the law, and the civil rights of same-sex couples.

The Rowan Court, Kentucky clerk who for months has made headlines almost daily for her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples Friday night received a “religious liberty” award from Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council. At FRC’s Values Voter Summit, Kim Davis, standing next to her husband Joe, was given the second annual “Cost of Discipleship” award for her efforts to impede the advancement of civil rights.

Introducing Tony Perkins was Davis’ attorney Mat Staver, who, like Perkins, also heads an anti-gay hate group, Liberty Counsel.

“These are times in history that are unlike anything that we had before,” Staver told the audience. “God birthed Kim Davis, and Joe Davis, and each one of you for this moment in American and world history.”

Staver said that God is “looking for people who love Jesus Christ and who will stand for Him, who will not flinch when their time is called and that person is Kim Davis and Joe Davis. May God raise up more,” Staver beseeched.

Perkins announced that it is “time for Christian leaders who hold positions of public trust to resist the edicts of unelected and virtually unaccountable rulers who issue unjust edicts that conflict with the truth of God.”

He told the audience, which during Friday’s events reportedly included several thousand Republican voters and politicians, that “it is time for Christians to begin to stand for their faith.”

“Kim Davis should not be an outlier,” Perkins insisted. “Kim Davis should not be something that surprises America. There should be Kim Davises in every elected office, at every level, who say ‘No’ to judges who redefine the revealed truth of God, what is revealed in nature and in His word.”

After applause that lasted well over a minute, Davis came to the microphone and told her supporters, “I love you all!”

As she began to speak, with tissues in both hands wiping her tears from her eyes, Davis announced, “I feel so very undeserving.”

“I want to start by thanking my lord and my savior, Jesus Christ, because without him none of this would have ever be possible, for he is my strength, that carries me,” Davis said.

Jesus, Davis said, “will show up at just the right time. His timing is always perfect.”

Then, she began to shout, “I am only one. But we are many!”
