Sarah Palin Tells Hispanic Immigrants That Speaking ‘American’ Is A ‘Unifying Aspect Of The Nation’

Sarah Palin wants Hispanic immigrants to “speak American,” because it’s a “unifying aspect of the nation.”

Sarah Palin is taking a good-natured ribbing this afternoon after appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning.

Asked about Donald Trump’s attack on Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish when addressing Hispanic audiences, the former GOP vice presidential nominee told Jake Tapper it is “a benefit of Bush to be able to be so fluent, because we have a large and wonderful Hispanic population building America, and that’s a great connection he has with them.”

Jeb Bush’s wife of more than 40 years, Columba, is Mexican-American.

“On the other hand,” Palin continued, “I think we can send a message and say, ‘You want to be in America, (A), you’d better be here legally or you’re out of here. (B), when you’re here, let’s speak American.”

“Let’s speak English, and that’s a kind of a unifying aspect of the nation is the language that is understood by all.”

Palin then quipped that she took both Spanish and French in high school.

“Shouldn’t have taken them both because I got them mixed up by the time I was graduating.”

She concluded that it is an issue that “goes right over the public’s head.”

Meanwhile, in response, folks on Twitter enjoyed a holiday weekend laugh:
