Here’s A Photo Of The Clock That Got a 14 Year Old Boy Arrested For Making A ‘Hoax Bomb’

Police released this photo of a clock that a Texas school teacher thought could be a bomb. She called police who arrested the 14-year old engineer who made it.

Today the Internet is abuzz with the story of Ahmed Mohammed, the 14-year old Irving, Texas student who brought a clock he made at home to school.

One teacher who saw it reportedly called police (not the principal to ask for direction) and the cops arrested Ahmed, handcuffing him in front of his fellow classmates, after five of them and the principal talked to him without his parents or an attorney present.

The principal reportedly tried to strong arm him into signing a statement, the contents of which remain unknown.

He was taken by police to what they describe as a juvenile detention facility – which of course is jail for juveniles – fingerprinted and interrogated – again, without his parents or an attorney present – and was not allowed to call his parents until the interrogation was over.

This tweet (above) from a local reporter shows a photo of the photo the police released. It’s unclear if that electric cord is Ahmed’s, as the clock apparently was working while unplugged at his desk.

You’ll notice the lack of anything resembling explosives in the case, because, as Ahmed repeatedly told everyone, it is a clock.

Ahmed is genuinely touched by the huge amount of international support he’s received, and sent this tweet, wearing the same NASA t-shirt he wore when he was arrested by police.

Police have decided against charging Ahmed, although they were considering charges of a “hoax bomb,” which maybe, might have been reasonable, possibly, had he not shown the clock to several teachers telling them it was a clock he made.

As of now there have not been reports of a lawsuit or disciplinary action against the school or police.

On Twitter, people are using the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed to express support and outrage
