Couple Who Sued Kim Davis Have Yet To Marry: ‘The Entire Experience Is Tainted Now’ (Video)

One same-sex couple says no matter what, their entire memory of their wedding will be “tainted” because of Davis’ actions.

One of the four couples whose lawsuit led to Kim Davis being put in jail for contempt of court laments their memories of their impending wedding will forever be bittersweet. David Moore and David Ermold are the couple whose viral video of Davis refusing them a marriage license just days after the Supreme Court’s marriage ruling first brought media attention to the violation of their civil rights.

They finally have received a marriage license, but seem reluctant to set a date, as they wrestle both with feelings of upset for having been put through such a challenge, and feelings of sadness that their actions, though necessary, had a negative impact on Davis, whom they see as a member of their local community.

“I hate to say it but our marriage license put someone in jail – that’s what it cost. The cost here is great and it’s larger than anyone could possibly imagine,” David Ermold told the Daily Mail.

Ermold’s fiancé, David Moore, says they’ve even “talked to a pastor about it.”

“How am I supposed to walk down the aisle and stand at an altar without feeling some kind of hurt?,” he asks. “It’s never going to be a good memory,” Moore concludes. “The entire experience is this tainted thing now. Even when we have our ceremony, people are going to ask us about it, they are going to say Kim Davis’ name.”

The couple, who say they will will marry before the 30-day expiration date on their new license comes, note they wish Davis had made different choices.

“I didn’t want her in jail, I wanted her to resign and do the dignified thing,” Ermold says.

He adds he does not understand why politicians, presumably like Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz, “are backing up a lawless woman. She has broken the law and I’m not sure how that contributes to their political campaigns in anyway.”

“Maybe it’s good for securing donations and having the ‘campaign lifestyle’ – because that’s what they live. Especially when they know they are not going to win.”

The couple have taken the high road throughout the entire situation. After their video went viral and they learned their supporters were highlighting the fact that Davis has been married four times, they denounced the attacks on her, despite what she had put them through.
