‘Arrow’ Star John Barrowman Campaigns To Help LGBT Foster Kids

John Barrowman is helping raise money for Sanctuary Palm Springs, and organization that helps LGBT foster children.

According to the Human Rights campaign, the percentage of youth in foster care who identify as LGBTQ is larger than the percentage of LGBTQ youth in the general youth population. Many of the LGBTQ foster kids also have the added layer of trauma that comes with being rejected or mistreated because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

John Barrowman (known for his roles in Arrow, Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Desperate Housewives) is determined to do something about this, and he’s stepping up to help those kids in need. He launched a new fundraiser earlier this week to raise money for Sanctuary Palm Springs, a home that provides a safe and stable environment for LGBTQ teens in foster care.

Those who want to help with the fundraiser can purchase a new t-shirt designed by John Barrowman specifically for Sanctuary Palm Springs. “The world can be a dark place. Light it up,” it says.

The shirt is on sale for a limited time at Represent.com, which has helped stars like Arrow’s Stephen Amell, Mark Ruffalo, George R.R. Martin, other create other non-profit fundraising campaigns.

The fundraiser is currently more than halfway towards its goal and Barrowman’s fans have been praising the star’s support.

“John Barrowman isn’t just another actor on the planet,” explained Sanna Aloha, a fan in Germany who works with children and young adults. “He’s always willing to stand up for equality, and use his position to help others in need. I think it’s great that he’s helping LGBTQ youth in foster care that need the security of a safe and stable environment like the one provided at Sanctuary Palm Springs. How awesome is that?”

This isn’t the first time Barrowman put his face on a t-shirt to raise money for the LGBT community. Earlier this year, he teamed up with the NOH8 campaign. See a picture of that shirt below.

Barrowman also joined many other actors from Arrow and The Flash in a NOH8 photoshoot session last year. Head on over to the NOH8 website to see the cast of both series standing up for LGBT equality.
