Trump Refuses To Cite His Favorite Quote From The Bible Because ‘It’s Very Personal’
Donald Trump for weeks has been claiming the Bible is his favorite book, yet he refuses to quote a single passage of scripture.
“I believe very, very strongly. I’m a big believer in the Bible,” Donald Trump told a radio host last week. It wasn’t the first time he brought up the Bible, which he says is his favorite book. “The Bible! Nothing beats the Bible,” Trump said earlier this month. He’s even had the audacity to claim, “I go out of my way to use the word Christmas.”
So, when Trump was interviewed this afternoon by Bloomberg Politics reporters Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, and asked a perfectly reasonable question about his “favorite” book, which “nothing beats,” he refused to answer.
“I’m wondering what one or two of your favorite Bible verses are,” Halperin inquired.
“Well, I wouldn’t want to get into it,” Trump said, “because to me that’s very personal.”
“You know when I talk about the Bible it’s very personal,” Trump continued.
“There’s no verse you that means a lot to you that you think about or cite?,” Halperin pushed.
“The Bible means a lot to me but I don’t want to get into specifics,” Trump insisted.
“Even to cite a verse you like?,” Halperin offered.
“No. I don’t want to do that,” Trump concluded.
John Heilemann interjected, asking, “Old Testament guy or New testament guy?”
“Probably equal,” Trump responded.Â

Folks on Twitter were quick to comment:
Dear Trump Supporters, This is what happened: Trump pandered to crowd about the Bible being his favorite book & got caught. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

“@ABCPolitics: Donald Trump declines to name favorite his Bible verse: “It’s very personal.”†Probably the “begats” rate high with him! 🙂

@ABCPolitics LMAO!!!! He’s never cracked the book in his entire life. Everyone should know that.

I bet Trump has the classiest, most luxurious Bible ever.

“John 3:16 is the classiest Bible verse ever.”-Trump tomorrow, probably. https://t.co/AEHbSW5Alx

PRICELESS: Trump can’t cite one of his favorite Bible verses. Not one. Favorite book? https://t.co/sAHyOw4oFQ

The idea that Trump has ever sat down and read the Bible is insanity.

@LeonHWolf Trump has no favorite Bible verse because none of them mention him. https://t.co/20jmtFpQXU

For the record, yours truly last night was hoping this question would get asked. It’s a start:
For the love of God, some journalist must ask Trump to list the 10 Commandments, in order, and quote a half-dozen lines from scripture. #p2

Finally, Trump’s “answer” has spawned a non-partisan (or bipartisan) attack on Twitter with the hashtag, #TrumpBible.Â
