Rubio Moves Right, Now Says No Exceptions For Bans On Abortion, Not Even Rape Or Incest

Ignoring a bill he sponsored two years ago, Marco Rubio now says he opposes exceptions for abortion.

During Thursday night’s GOP debate, Fox News host Megyn Kelly suggested to Marco Rubio he supports a ban on abortion, except in cases of rape or incest.

Rubio rejected that claim, saying, “I have never said that. And I have never advocated that. What I have advocated is that we pass law in this country that says all human life at every stage of its development is worthy of protection.”

“In fact, I think that law already exists. It is called the Constitution of the United States,” Rubio stated, to applause.

The Florida Senator ignored the fact that two years ago he cosponsored a bill banning all abortions after 20 weeks, except in cases of rape, incest, or the health of the mother.

Today on CNN, Rubio acknowledged it’s a “tough question,” but doubled down and moved right.

“I think both of those instances are horrifying, and fortunately, they’re extremely rare. It happens, and any time it happens, it’s horrifying, it’s a tragedy,” Rubio told “New Day” host Chris Cuomo. “But I personally and honestly and deeply believe that all human life is worthy of protection, irrespective of the circumstances in which that human life was created. I personally believe that you do not correct one tragedy with another.”

Rubio on CNN did not specifically address exceptions for the health of the mother.

Talking Points Memo notes that a “majority of Americans have consistently supported exceptions for rape and incest, according to Gallup polls conducted since 1996.”

Rubio went on to claim that science has determined when a fetus can be considered a human.
