Rick Santorum’s Son Was Arrested, Charged With Driving While Intoxicated Last Month
John Santorum, who has appeared with his father Rick Santorum in several social media posts for the campaign, was arrested and charged with DWI.
Richard John Santorum, Jr., who goes by his middle name, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated last month. The 22-year old son of presidential candidate Rick Santorum reportedly was driving at nearly twice the legal limit, CNN reports. The Hill also reported the news.
Rick Santorum for years has positioned himself as a family man and used his family members extensively in social media posts and on his presidential campaign website:
John is in his last year at the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, where he’s attended college with his brother, Daniel and majored in business. Outside of school, John enjoys swimming, working out, running, boxing, and hunting. John also spends a lot of time taking care of his beloved pickup truck while listening to country music.
CNN reports John Santorum “was stopped at a DUI checkpoint in suburban Virginia at about midnight on July 11, according to court papers.”
John Santorum’s “first breath-test resulted in a reading of .145, almost double the legal limit of .08. At the jail, his blood-alcohol level registered .11, according to the complaint.”
For the presidential campaign, John has appeared with his father and family in Facebook photos, in Instagram photos, and in Twitter posts.

For years, Santorum has waged war against “non-traditional families,” insisting that only heterosexual two-parent families can properly raise children. In 2012, “Santorum cited an unnamed ‘anti-poverty expert’ to claim that children are better off having a parent in prison who abandoned them than having two same-sex parents.”
