New Poll Shows Donald Trump Closing In Fast On Hillary Clinton
Trump’s popularity has been tempered by polls that until recently showed him losing big if he runs against Hillary Clinton. Until now.
Could Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton? For the past few months, polls showed Clinton beating Trump by as much as 18 points. But now, a new CNN poll shows Hillary Clinton ahead of Donald Trump by just six points.
CNN calls it “a dramatic tightening since July,” and says that now, for the first time, Trump is considered “competitive in the general election.”
Since July, Trump has gained ground among Republican and GOP-leaning voters, men, and white voters.
Clinton has lost ground due to the perception her use of a private email server as Secretary of State may have been wrong.
The poll also delivers Clinton her most negative ratings since 2001.
Clinton’s favorability stands at 44%, her unfavorability at 53%.
Now, just 47% of Democrats support her for the nomination.
The poll surveyed 1001 adult Americans from August 13 – August 16.
