Josh Duggar’s ‘Rehab’ May Just Be A Christian Labor Camp That Has ‘No Medical Staff’

Josh Duggar’s parents say he has checked into rehab, but there’s a very good chance it’s Christian based and “not a medical facility,” which means the Duggars think Jesus can heal Josh’s problems.

When news broke that Josh Duggar had sexually molested five young girls, including his sisters, when he was a teenager, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar insisted they did all they could for him, including sending him to counseling. That counseling reportedly included a summer of hard labor, and some reports stated Josh was sent to a family friend who was a home remodeler.

Last week, Josh admitted to cheating on his wife, amid reports he had two paid Ashley Madison accounts, and rumors he had a Facebook page set up to communicate with strippers, and an OkCupid dating site account.

In his apology last week, Josh Duggar stated, “I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.”

“The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our county, in my heart I had allowed Satan to build a fortress that no one knew about.”

Now, the Duggars this week say Josh has entered rehab. But given their following of Quiverfull practices and their extreme Christian beliefs, chances are good that Josh’s “rehab” is Christ-based, not medical-based.

Gawker has published several reports stating that Josh Duggar has likely checked into “the Christian-based, North Love Baptist Church-affiliated Reformers Unanimous recovery center. A place that’s little more than a glorified, bible-based labor camp.”

Reformers Unanimous is headed by Dr. Paul Kingsbury who “was raised in a Christian home and came to know the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior at five years of age. At sixteen he surrendered to serve Christ with his life under the preaching ministry of Dr. Jack Hyles of Hammond, Indiana. He began preaching in jails, nursing homes and rescue missions. He attended Maranatha Baptist Bible College and graduated from Hyles-Anderson College in 1976.”

Hyles-Anderson College is an unaccredited Independent Baptist college that trains ministers, not M.D.s.

In fact, Reformers Unanimous states it is a “School of Discipleship” and a “ministry,” not a medical rehab center.

The schedule shows all those who go to the Christian facility have to get up at 4:30 AM, spend several hours daily in prayer or Bible study, work – for free – at least eight hours a day, and have practically zero free time.

Its application (below) states, “if you are serious about changing your life for the glory of God and willing to learn to let God do the work, we can help you. Remember this, the only permanent change is character change; and character change takes discipline, determination, and the wonderful grace of God. We will introduce you to all three while in our homes.”

The application also includes these forms:

The chances of Josh Duggar being cured or equipped to deal with his addiction, whatever they may be, seem to be slim.

The most troubling part in all this, though, is that what Josh would be doing during his six months away isn’t likely to contribute to the sort of addiction recovery he’s ostensibly looking for—just like the last time he entered this sort of program,” Gawker writes. “Despite the apparent lack of results, his family continues to pay to send him to uncredentialed work facilities, with the hopes that maybe this time something will stick. The problem is—at least from what these forms tell us—is that the only thing Josh could possibly walk away with is a strengthened sense of self-loathing and a few more memorized bible verses.”
