Gay Man Files Lawsuit Accusing NYPD Of Breaking His Ribs, Using Homophobic Slur At Pride Parade

A New York City man says the NYPD attacked him and used an anti-gay slur at last year’s pride parade.

25-year old Jacob Alejandro has filed a federal lawsuit against the NYPD after he says cops shoved him to the ground and called him a “faggot” at last year’s NYC Pride.

“While Mr. Alejandro lay on the ground bleeding, a defendant officer yelled, in sum, “Get the f–k up, you f—t,” the law suit states, according to the NY Post.

Alejandro says he was on Christopher Street, leaving the June 29, 2014 parade when a police officer pushed him, and he fell to the ground. 

“Cops then piled on top of Alejandro, who is gay, and took him to the Sixth Precinct. He was eventually taken to Bellevue Hospital,” the Post reports. “According to the criminal complaint in the case, Alejandro had jumped over a police barricade and then flailed his arms when cops tried to arrest.”

Alejandro says he was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

After he was released, Alejandro went to Coney Island Hospital and was diagnosed with fractured ribs, according to the suit.

His charges were ultimately dismissed.

“There is something particularly vulgar about discriminatory anti-gay conduct from police officers working at a gay pride event. This lawsuit is about obtaining a measure of justice for Jacob,” Alejandro’s lawyer, Baree Fett, told the Post.

In a statement, Alejandro told the Post, “I have seen too much bias and bigotry from NYPD officers, and I hope my case makes a difference.”
