Breaking: Rowan County Clerk Just Refused Marriage License To Same-Sex Couple

Once again, despite numerous court rulings, a Rowan County clerk just refused to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple.

This morning for the third time James Yates and William Smith Jr. tried to apply for a marriage license and for the third time Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis’s office refused to issue it.

Yesterday a three judge panel of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals refused Kim Davis‘ request for a stay of U.S. District Judge David Bunning’s order requiring her and her office to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples regardless of gender. 

A deputy clerk today was the one who refused to issue the license.

Judge Bunning placed a temporary hold on his injunction requiring Davis to issue the licenses, and Davis’ office argued this morning that they are not required to issue them until that hold expires on Monday. Bunning’s hold expires Monday or when the 6th Circuit rules. The 6th Circuit also cited Monday as the date they must begin to issue licenses but the couple today disagreed.

“It’s just making us want to press more,” Yates told the Courier-Journal. “She can’t get away with this.”
