Viral Anti-Gay Catholic Coming-Out Video Gets Parodied, And It’s Brilliant!

A new video mocks an anti-gay ad about people who feel discriminated against because they hate gay people. Well, actually, they don’t hate gay people. One of them apparently has an unverified gay friend… somewhere. It’s true, because he said so.

The day before the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality, an anti-gay group by the name of Catholic Vote released a video in which six young adults compare their difficulty about being publicly vocal about their homophobic beliefs to the difficulty many LGBT people have when coming out of the closet.

The people in the video play the victim as they share their concerns for being shamed for their beliefs. “You’re not alone,” they call out to others in an offer of support. The video reeks of a PR campaign for a hate group. It’s similar to what a video would be like if the KKK made one about how difficult it is for Klan members because of the public shaming they get for having sincerely held racist beliefs. Well, as expected, a parody of the video quickly surfaced… and it’s brilliant.

To show just how ridiculous the other video is the parody substitutes the Catholic Vote’s ugly anti-gay beliefs with ugly racist and misogynist comments.

“I actually think the races should be segregated,” one guy says. “Maybe like Asian City or Blackland!”

An actress by the name of Ava Gordy follows up by saying, “It’s just my personal belief that a woman belongs in the kitchen, barefoot, making a beautiful meal for her husband, while holding her two babies, twins, and breast feeding them at the same time… but definitely not in public. That shit’s gross.”

In another segment, drag queen Miles Jai mocks the recent news surrounding former NAACP of Washington president Rachel Dolezal and being “transracial.”

“Bigoted is a huge word that gets thrown around, and that hurts my feelings,” explains Jai.

“What about racist?” an interviewer asks.

“Oh no, not that word,” she replies.

“Sexist?”

“No not that either.”

The video is summed up by the following statements:

“At the end of the day, I think we shouldn’t be ashamed about how we feel about things, so just be you… unless you’re black, or Asian, or Latino, or Arab, or Native American, or a woman,” and, “I just feel like the best way to break down all these barriers is to just listen to me.”
