New York Magazine Puts 35 Of The 46 Women Who Have Accused Bill Cosby Of Sexual Assault On Its Cover

New York Magazine publishes a cover story of  “a sorrowful sisterhood” of brave women who all say Bill Cosby sexually assaulted them.

It is a stark and stunning statement.

For years now we’ve heard the accusers come forward, some of their names familiar, most not.

We’ve seen the interviews, read the op-eds and analysis, but never before have we seen their faces, or at least this many, all together.

“So far, 46 women have come forward to accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault, in some cases, according to a recently unsealed deposition, with the aid of Qualuudes—a powerful sedative that can render a person functionally immobile,” New York Magazine writes of its cover story, on Facebook.

“But these allegations are by no means new, with some stretching back decades—to a time when the culture of rape in America left victims little recourse but to suffer silently, and in shame. Today, the way we think and talk about rape has evolved, creating a safer space for survivors to feel empowered by speaking up, reclaiming their victimhood. And that’s led us to here. Of the 46 women who have come forward to accuse Cosby, we spoke to 35 of them — ‘a sorrowful sisterhood’ of women united by their dark experiences, steadfast in their resolve to remain silent no more.”

On Twitter, in less than 12 hours – overnight – the tweet of the cover has been favorited over 5800 times, and retweeted almost twice that number.

Some responses were positive and supportive:

Stunningly, seemingly the vast majority of responses on Twitter were not.

Editor’s note: New York Magazine’s website currently is having difficulties, which they note on Twitter should be fixed soon.

UPDATE I: New York Magazine is the victim of a hacker.
