Ivana Trump has come out to defend Donald Trump after the Daily Beast reported on a book that claimed she once accused her ex-husband of rape and sexual violation.
Monday night The Daily Beast ran a bombshell story, reporting that in a divorce deposition Ivana Trump accused her soon-to-be ex-husband Donald Trump once of raping her and making her feel violated. Later, the ex-Mrs. Trump would walk that claim back a bit, according to a statement published in a book on Trump the Daily Beast used to source its reporting.

In that article, the Daily Beast also reports Donald Trump’s attorney denied that marital rape can legally exist – in actuality, it is legally recognized as a crime in all 50 states – and threatened the Daily Beast reporter with a lawsuit. “I’m warning you, tread very fucking lightly, because what I’m going to do to you is going to be fucking disgusting. You understand me?”
But now, Ivana Trump has quickly offered up a statement in support of her ex.
“I have recently read some comments attributed to me from nearly 30 years ago at a time of very high tension during my divorce from Donald,” the statement, obtained by CNN, reads. “The story is totally without merit. Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of.”
Ivana Trump adds that she has “nothing but fondness for Donald” and she wishes him “the best of luck on his campaign.”
“Incidentally, I think he would make an incredible president,” Ivana Trump concluded.
