Huckabee Would Not Rule Out Using National Guard Troops To Stop Abortion

Mike Huckabee just made a stunning announcement: he would consider defying and violating a landmark Supreme Court ruling and use federal troops to enforce his will.

Speaking in Iowa on Thursday (image, top,) Mike Huckabee told reporters he would consider using federal troops, or the FBI, to stop abortion across the country.

The former Arkansas governor and 2016 GOP presidential candidate who is struggling in the polls was asked by reporters about the issue of abortion, on which he has been outspoken against, at two different campaign stops.

“Though the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against bans on abortion, Huckabee said past presidents have defied Supreme Court rulings,” the Topeka Capital-Journal, reports today, in an article titled “Mike Huckabee, Republican presidential candidate, won’t rule out employing U.S. troops, FBI to stop abortion.” They add, “Presidential candidate indicates defying Supreme Court not out of the question.”

In response to a question from the audience at the Pizza Ranch in Jefferson, Iowa, Huckabee said he would “invoke the 5th and 14th amendments for the protection of every human being.”

At his next stop, in Rockwell City, Huckabee answered follow-up questions from the correspondent, saying: “All American citizens should be protected.”

Asked by another reporter how he would stop abortion, and whether this would mean using the FBI or federal forces to accomplish this, Huckabee replied: “We’ll see if I get to be president.”

He said he would use all resources available to protect U.S. citizens.

Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister and former Fox News show host, told supporters he believes the U.S. Supreme Court wrongly decided the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

“Privacy doesn’t allow you to take a life,” he told supporters.
