Thomas Roberts Quits As Host Of Trump’s Miss Universe, Joins Many Leaving Over Racist Remarks

Thomas Roberts, and his co-host Cheryl Burke have dropped out of the Miss Universe pageant due to Donald Trump’s racist remarks. They’re among the latest in a slew of name-brands to sever ties with the billionaire Republican presidential candidate.

Thomas Roberts, a journalist and previous co-host of the Miss Universe pageant, is the latest person to sever ties with presidential hopeful, Donald Trump, over the racist rants in Trump’s political campaign speech.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” Trump cried out during his presidential announcement speech. “They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. And they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some I assume, are good people.”

Roberts went to Twitter to announce he was backing out of his agreement to co-host the Miss Universe pageant, a contest that is partially owned by Trump. “Best of luck to all #MissUSA2015 contestants this year & THX to the good people behind the scenes @MissUniverse – been a joy working w/you!”

Robert’s would-be co-host, “Dancing with the Stars” professional dancer and a TV host Cheryl Burke also backed out of her hosting duties.

“In light of the recent statements made by Donald Trump and the subsequent decision by NBC to cut ties with Mr. Trump, I cannot in good conscience move forward with participating in this year’s Miss USA pageant as its co-host,” Burke said in a statement. “Effective today I have withdrawn from my duties with Miss USA. Although I will not be there in person, I wish all of the contestants much luck as I know how hard they’ve all been working over the last year to try and realize their dreams.”

NBC and Univision have both refused to air the pageant, and NBC has gone a step further by saying Trump will no longer be able to host “The Apprentice.” Many other companies have severed their ties with Trump as well, including Macy’s, Serta, ESPN, Phillips-Van Heusen, and most recently, the PGA of America.

Even though many have started to distance themselves from Donald Trump, one man has decided to praise him for racist comments. Fellow Republican presidential hopeful, Ted Cruz went on Fox news to support the real estate mogul. “I think NBC is engaging in political correctness that is silly and that is wrong,” Cruz said in Trumps defense. When asked if he thought Trump should apologize, Cruz simply said, “I don’t think you should apologize for speaking out against the problem that is illegal immigration. I recognize that the PC world of mainstream media, they don’t want to admit it, but the American people are fed up.”

Meanwhile, Trump continues to put his foot in his mouth by continuing his rant and defending his statements about Mexicans.
