Couple Denounces Attacks On County Clerk Married Four Times Who Denied Them A Marriage License

A couple whose video of them being denied a marriage license went viral this week are denouncing the attacks on the clerk who continues to refuse them their right to marry.

There’s a pretty good chance you’re one of the more than 1.5 million people who have watched a Kentucky clerk deny a marriage license to David Moore and David Ermold. That video, posted to YouTube Monday, went viral and heightened an already present backlash against the county clerk, Kim Davis, who refuses to issue them a marriage license.

Davis is citing her religious beliefs as the reason – and, supposedly, her right – to refuse them a license, and she is being represented by the powerful anti-gay legal firm Liberty Counsel. She is being sued by the ACLU.

“What has happened is that five lawyers have imposed their personal view of what the definition of marriage should be on the rest of us,” David has said. “And I, as a Christian, have strong views, too. And I know I don’t stand alone.”

In response, this image has been circulating on Twitter and Facebook, noting that Davis has been married four times:

It’s sparked even more of a backlash against Davis, whom many are calling a hypocrite for cherrypicking from the Christian Bible.

According to WKYT reporter Victor Puente, Davis – according to her marriage certificate – has indeed been married four times, he says in the above video.

But in that same video, David Moore and David Ermold are denouncing the attacks on Davis, saying their fight isn’t about her marriages, but their right to get married.

“I don’t like that,” Ermold says on camera with Moore agreeing. “That is not what this is about, at all. We just want a marriage license, that’s what we want.”

They add their county is filled with “good people, all around.”

Especially David Moore and David Ermold, who, despite being denied their constitutional right to marry, are big enough and honorable enough to not want the one person standing in the way of their right to marry, to be subjected to attacks.
