Caitlyn Jenner Launches New Column in the Huffington Post

Caitlyn Jenner educates the world in her new Huffington Post editorial column.

Caitlyn Jenner launched the first of a new series of editorials in the Huffington Post this week. The column is called “The Real Me,” and will explore issues and people in the LGBT community.

“Up until now, I have totally isolated myself from the transgender community, so I have a lot of catching up to do,” explains Jenner in her new column. “I feel such a responsibility to this courageous group to try to get it right and tell all sides of the story. To me, that’s always the biggest question: am I doing it right?”

Jenner had received mixed reviews from the community when coming out as transgender.

The Guardian quoted “celebrated trans actress Laverne Cox, who welcomed the news with the vernacular outburst ‘Yasss Gawd! Werk Caitlyn! Get it!'”

But The Guardian also quoted Janetta Johnson, Program Director for TGI Justice explaining, “Jenner’s a rich white bitch – she can pay for everything she needs. But I think she now needs to put some of that money back into the transgender community as she has taken a lot. All these years we have been abused and battered, yet she has used none of her power to help the community and bring about change.”

Jenner now seems to be using her voice as a way to help the LGBT community, specifically those who identify as trans. In her article, she discusses the dinner she had with other prominent transgender women, including model Geena Rocero and actress Candis Cayne, and she talks about how inspired she is with how they overcame their adversities.

Jenner also takes the opportunity to mention bullying against transgender youth, and to educate the Huffington Post readers with the statistic that “25% of the women in high-end sex business are reportedly trans women.”

In addition to her new column, Jenner also has a new, eight-part documentary series titled I Am Cait, which will premier on Sunday, July 26, at 9 p.m., only on E! The show will illustrate how Jenner lives her life as a transgender woman and will tell her intimate story of seeking out her “new normal.”
