Breaking: Kansas State Agencies Recognize Same-Sex Marriages – Governor Has Denied Reports

Some state agencies in Kansas are now recognizing legal marriages of same-sex couples, but the Governor has been saying no.

Finally, eleven days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marriage and it is unconstitutional for states to both ban and not recognize marriages of same-sex couples, some state agencies in Kansas are beginning to recognize the legal marriages of same-sex couples.

Equality Kansas saysthe State of Kansas has confirmed that same-sex couples may now update their drivers licenses, apply for health insurance on their spouse’s state employee’s health insurance, and adopt children as married couples.

But the LGBT rights group also notes that just yesterday Kansas Republican Governor Sam Brownback was denying those claims.

“Meanwhile,” EQKS reported, “the Governor’s office is continuing to deny this is happening, calling reports of recognition to be ‘premature.'”

Brownback, of course is among the most anti-gay religious activist governors in the nation.

It’s unclear if he has relented.
