‘It’s The Queers They Should Be Hanging, Not The Flag’: Professor Pens Homophobic Facebook Post

A college professor shared some ugly words about gay people on Facebook, then asked his friends to pray for him.

Business professor Rick Coupland is no longer employed at St. Lawrence College in Ontario after a complaint was filed over a post he made on Facebook.

In response to a news story about the mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida raising the gay pride flag to kick-off the city’s month-long Pride celebration, Coupland reportedly shared his feelings, which were captured and posted to Twitter:

It’s the queers they should be hanging, not the flag ….,” Coupland’s Facebook post reads, followed by a request for his friends to “pray for me and my job.”

Those prayers were unsuccessful.

Several days after the Facebook post appeared in the local news, St. Lawrence College posted tweets saying, “As a result of complaints about comments made on social media that were brought forward to the College, this matter was investigated internally. Mr. Coupland is no longer an employee at St. Lawrence College.”
