‘Spiritual Warfare’: Southern Baptists Declare Anarchy Over Supreme Court Marriage Ruling (Video)

Representatives of America’s 16 million Southern Baptists have just declared war against any Supreme Court ruling that supports same-sex marriage.

The President of the Southern Baptist Convention, a Christian denomination that boasts 16 million members in the U.S., yesterday called for his members to wage “spiritual warfare” in response to any Supreme Court ruling that supports same-sex marriage.

“We are in spiritual warfare,” said SBC president Rev. Ronnie Floyd to his more than 5000 members present at their annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio. “This is not a time for Southern Baptists to stand back.”

Floyd warned that a ruling favoring marriage equality “would add fuel, more fuel, to the already sweeping wildfire of sexual revolution and move it beyond all control.”

And he chastised other Christian denominations for being supportive of equality.

“When other denominations and leaders are beginning to relax their message to be more politically correct, will we rise up in faithfulness to believe and stand on His Word and for Jesus’ name?” Floyd asked, as the Raw Story reports. “There is not one government, one Supreme Court, one court case, one editorial, one commentator, one liberal, one conservative, one world leader, one politician, one radical group, one demon or one of anything that can shut the doors Jesus Himself has opened for us.”

Those “doors Jesus Himself has opened for us,” include today’s adoption of a resolution by the SBC “messengers” at the convention that essentially declares anarchy in response to an impending Supreme Court marriage ruling.

“Southern Baptists recognize that no governing institution has the authority to negate or usurp God’s definition of marriage,” the resolution reads. “No matter how the Supreme Court rules, the Southern Baptist Convention reaffirms its unwavering commitment to its doctrinal and public beliefs concerning marriage.”

And it includes statements suggesting a belief that marriage is about sex.

“The redefinition of marriage to include same-sex couples will continue to weaken the institution of the natural family unit and erode the religious liberty and rights of conscience of all who remain faithful to the idea of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife,” it states, and adds, “the Southern Baptist Convention calls on Southern Baptists and all Christians to stand firm on the Bible’s witness on the purposes of marriage, among which are to unite man and woman as one flesh and to secure the basis for the flourishing of human civilization.”
