Right Wing Nuts Explode After Catholic Priest Says Two Men ‘Spat On Me’ At NYC Gay Pride Parade
The right wing and its hyperbolic blogosphere have exploded after a Fox News contributor who is a Catholic priest said he was spit on at Sunday’s NYC gay pride parade.
You may have heard of Fr. Jonathan Morris. He’s Fox News’ go-to Catholic contributor who appears often on Fox & Friends to contribute his opinion on the latest religion news, often about the Vatican or the Pope.
Last year, after the Pope’s famous Synod on the family that seemed it would be start of more Catholic Church support for LGBT families – until it wasn’t – Fr. Morris said “we should welcome everyone” but called a same-sex couple wanting their child to be baptized an “irregular difficult situation.”
He’s claimed an atheist as president would be “hard to trust” and has defended the Duggars, saying they should be able to keep their reality TV show.
On Sunday, Father Morris posted a tweet, saying he was spit on while walking in New York City, presumably through or near the gay pride parade, which he calls the “gay marriage parade.”Â
Walking down Broadway and 22nd St just now, I ran into gay marriage parade. Two men walked by and spat on me. Oh well… I deserve worse.

The religious right, the right wing blogosphere, and conservatives on social media immediately took up his cause.
Look at those intolerant gay people, spitting on a priest!
Of course, we’ll never know who those two men were, but the right now has exploded this into a huge outrage issue. Take a look at these headlines from right-wing blogs:
“Priest opposed to gay marriage spat on by gay pride parade marchers”
“Father Jonathan Morris spat upon at gay marriage parade”
“Well-Known Priest’s Amazing Response After He Said Two Men Spat on Him in Midst of NYC Gay Pride Parade”
“The War Begins: Two Gay Men Spit On Fox News Priest Because….He’s A Christian”
Michelle Malkin’s Twitchy reveled in it.
“What #LoveWins crowd did to Father Jonathan will enrage you,” “Biblical bam! ONE quote sums up the twisted who spit on Father Jonathan,” and “Bronx priest reports getting spit on after today’s gay pride parade in NYC.”
Yes, three “articles.”
And of course, Breitbart’s John Nolte, who last week wrote, “Take Down The Fascist, Anti-Christian Gay-Pride Flag,” was only too happy to offer this screed today: “Rainbow Of Hate: Catholic Priest Reports Being Spit On At Gay Marriage Parade.”
To his credit, Father Morris also posted this tweet:
The two men who spat on me are probably very good man caught up in excitement and past resentment. Most in that parade would not do that.

But also this:
The Episcopal Church sponsored float in gay parade with dancing man or woman (not sure) with short skirt and g-string. Something is wrong.

Some on Twitter were skeptical:
So @fatherjonathan had his phone handy to Tweet about it, but couldn’t take a picture of the the alleged spitters? https://t.co/YaSokZVNsl

@fatherjonathan @DavidAFrench I do not believe that gay people just gaining marriage are walking down the street spitting on frocked friars.

More responses from LGBT supporters:
Sorry, if true. How did they know you were not at #Pride as part of the many #LGBT allies of faith @fatherjonathan? pic.twitter.com/8hzmbiruAZ

@fatherjonathan I am sorry for their ignorance. I will pray for them. They do not represent all of us 🙂 #LoveIsLove

And from the anti-gay right:
Fr. Stop finding excuses for demons, that’s what they are!!!! Homosexuality is against the law of GOD, period @fatherjonathan …

@BobSoucy1 @fatherjonathan Trying to destroy Christianity is the left’s goal, not homosexual marriage.
