Mike Huckabee: Obama Prioritizing Military Celebration Of LGBT Pride Over Defeating ISIS
Mike Huckabee uses Facebook to rant against the Pentagon’s celebration of LGBT Pride month.
The Pentagon held its annual LGBT Pride celebration yesterday and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter delivered the keynote address highlighting changes in the armed forces after the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.â€
Carter also delivered the big news that the Department of Defense has “completed the process for updating its military equal opportunity policy to include sexual orientation, ensuring that the department, like the rest of the federal government, treats sexual orientation-based discrimination the same way it treats discrimination based on race, religion, color, sex, age, and national origin.”
While the mood at the event was celebratory, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was not amused.
“The fact that President Obama invests more in strategies to celebrate LGBT pride month for our military than military strategies to defeat radical Islam proves this Administration has a massive, mind-numbing prioritization problem,†Huckabee claimed on his official Facebook page. “The United States military is not a social experiment. We should not exploit our soldiers to promote Obama’s political agenda or progressive pet projects.â€
Huckabee has a long history of opposing LGBT equality, and never hid the fact that he was a major supporter of keeping gays and lesbians from serving in the military. Back in 2011, he even advocated reinstating the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell†policy. Huckabee is also against marriage equality, laws that protect LGBT Americans from discrimination, and allowing LGBT people to adopt children.Â
