Huckabee: I Wish I Had Found My Transgender Side In High School So I Could Shower With Girls

Mike Huckabee mocks transgender people as he suggests they’re just pretending so they can benefit from access to restrooms and locker rooms.

Earlier this year Mike Huckabee addressed the National Religious Broadcasters Convention and delivered his usual fire-and-brimstone, America is under attack, Christians are being persecuted around the world and across the country speech.

When the former Arkansas Republican governor got to the Christian persecution in America segment, Huckabee pointed to nondiscrimination ordinances which would allow transgender people to use the public restroom with which they identify. These laws, according to the Christian right, and right wing fanatics, are merely liberal attempts to allow women and girls to be victimized, molested, raped, and otherwise abused by, as Michelle Duggar claimed in a robocall, “males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls.”

Huckabee, who is now running for president, shared his feelings on the issue with a very supportive audience, as Buzzfeed today reports.

“For those who do not think that we are under threat, simply recognize that the fact that we are now in city after city watching ordinances say that your seven-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can’t be offended if she’s greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man.”

“Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE,” Huckabee quipped. “I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today,'” he mocked.

“You’re laughing because it sounds so ridiculous doesn’t it?,” Huckabee asked, rhetorically. “And yet today we are the ones who are ridiculed and scorned because we point out the obvious.”

“That there is something inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment. I’m not against anybody. I’d just like for somebody to bring their brain to work someday and not leave it on the bed-stand when they show up to govern.”
