The Duggar family is wisely using a PR expert to help them through the firestorm surrounding news that their son Josh allegedly molested five young girls. That expert happens to have strong ties to Mike Huckabee.
When Mike Huckabee announced his bid for the White House last month, no one was surprised Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar not only dropped their support of Rick Santorum to go to bat for their fellow Arkansas native, but were in the audience to cheer Huckabee on.
And not many were especially surprised that when the news broke that Josh Duggar had sexually molested five young girls, Mike Huckabee was among the first to rush to their side, announcing via Facebook that he and his wife would stand beside the Duggar family.
“Janet and I want to affirm our support for the Duggar family,” the 2016 GOP presidential candidate wrote. “Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable.'”
Huckabee claimed Josh and his family “dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities,” which is far from the whole truth, especially given new revelations released today.
Clearly the Duggars and the Huckabees appear to be strong friends. The two Arkansas families share another connection, as reported this afternoon by CNN Money, in a piece looking inside tonight’s Fox News’ anchor Megyn Kelly’s interview of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
“I want to hear their story, and I think America wants to hear their story now,” Kelly said on her show Monday.
The Duggars have a P.R. expert helping them tell that story: Chad Gallagher, the head of the Arkansas firm Legacy Consulting.Â
Gallagher is also a longtime adviser to Huckabee, and is the executive director of Huck PAC.Â
Gallagher declined to comment on his work for the Duggars when contacted by CNNMoney.
Huck PAC is Mike Huckabee’s political action committee that he began in 2008.
CNN adds the Duggars have a “well-documented relationship” with Mike Huckabee and that he “swiftly expressed his support for the Duggars” when the scandal broke.
