Trump Didn’t Tell The Truth Several Times During His Campaign Announcement – How Often Does He Lie?

The fact checkers at PolitiFact fact-checked some of Donald Trump’s statements from his presidential announcement speech. He didn’t do well.

PolitiFact is a non-partisan fact-checking group that is run by the Tampa Bay Times. The group fact checks statements made by politicians and lobbyists, and is best-known for its annual and always controversial “Lie of the Year.” That award has been bestoed upon statements made by Sarah Palin, the GOP, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Mitt Romney, and Barack Obama. Last year it was awarded to (mostly) conservative pundits who fear-mongered about Ebola.

On Tuesday, PolitiFact fact-checked several statements made by Donald Trump during his speech announcing he is running for president.

They checked three:

They should also have checked many more from the full text of his speech, like, 

When did we beat Japan at anything?

When do we beat Mexico at the border?

we have no protection and we have no competence

So now ISIS has the oil, and what they don’t have, Iran has. 

there are no jobs

our nuclear arsenal doesn’t work

Yesterday, it came out that costs are going for people up 29, 39, 49, and even 55 percent, and deductibles are through the roof. You have to be hit by a tractor, literally, a tractor, to use it, because the deductibles are so high, it’s virtually useless. It’s virtually useless. It is a disaster.

And remember the $5 billion website? $5 billion we spent on a website, and to this day it doesn’t work. A $5 billion website.

Meanwhile, Politifact has a list of all the statements made by Trump that they’ve checked.

Of those statements, Trump has not told the truth more than two-thirds of the time – 70 percent:
