Madonna Sparks Debate By Posting Image Of Gay Jewish And Muslim Men About To Kiss

Pop star sensation Madonna has never been fearful of inviting controversy – or causing it – as she just did with an image she posted to Instagram.

On Sunday Madonna posted a controversial image to her Instagram page.

The image is of a gay Orthodox Jewish man (left) about to kiss a gay Muslim man (right).

Or not.

Perhaps they’re models.

Perhaps they’re not gay. Or Muslim. Or Jewish.

Jewish news agency JTA describes the image as showing “a Jewish man with side curls and wearing a large white knitted kippah of the Breslover Hasidic movement and an Arab man wearing a traditional Arab keffiyeh.”

Regardless, the Material Girl knows how to spark controversy, discussion, and debate, and what a great way to do it.

For millennia the Middle East has been a war zone of intellectual, spiritual, and physical battles between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, and their adherents, followers, and advocates.

For millennia, and increasingly, homosexuality has been part of this debate.

So why not show a Muslim man and a Jewish man – no doubt many Muslim and Jewish gay couples exist – setting aside these debates and taking time to be human?

In fact, one commenter, as The Independent reported, says he (or she) is a personal testament to being in a bi-religious relationship.

“I don’t understand all the ppl here say it’s not possible I’m Jewish from Israel my boyfriend is Arab Muslim and we live together for 3 years now!”

Commenters on the image took all sides, but seemed overwhelmingly positive.

“This photo gives me goose bumps, I love you @madonna!!!!”

“I bow down to you. I think this is simply magnificent, who cares what Religion, sex or color we are. Love is love plain and simple. Applause for your guts and bravery once again. This is why there will ever only be one #queen @madonna

“Love it a human right!❤️💛💚💜💙”

One, however, offered, “No. Simply No.”

In less than 24 hours the image has received nearly 70,000 likes.

“During her Confessions tour, she had two male shirtless dancers on stage during Forbidden Love,” Gay Star News reports. “One was painted with a Muslim star and crescent on his chest and the other had a Star of David. While they appear to ‘fight’ throughout the song, they embrace at the end.”
