Jon Stewart took a look at several of the 2016 presidential candidates, including Jeb Bush, who said he would have invaded Iraq as his brother George Bush did, even knowing what we know now – that it was one of the worst foreign policy disasters in history.
On Monday, Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked Jeb Bush, “Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?”
Bush’s response?
“I would have.”
Stewart took Bush to task Tuesday night, starting with the recent news that Jeb Bush told a group of high-value donors that his brother George is one of his top advisors, especially on Middle East policy.

“One of his top foreign policy advisors…for him to poop on?” Stewart mocked. “There’s gotta be another clause in that sentence.”
Then, the Megyn Kelly interview clip.
“When an Iraq War question starts with ‘Knowing what we know now,’ ‘Hell yes I’d still do it,’ is not an acceptable response,” Stewart insisted.
“Sure I’d get on the Titantic again!” Stewart quipped. “I mean at the time, it had a terrific buffet!”
To be fair, Jeb Bush has since backtracked, sort of, claiming he didn’t properly “interpret” Kelly’s “Knowing what we know now” portion of the question, which, even if true, is concerning, at best.
His new response?
“Mistakes were made, as they always are in life,†he says, of his brother’s decision to invade Iraq.
Funny, how that’s the exact phrase MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow did an entire segment in February on the Bush family history of using the passive voice, blameless phrase, “Mistakes were made.”
